Kennet Lekko art show for Zonamaco art week

For Mexico City Art Week Sucesiva invites Kennet Lekko to present a solo show hosted by #Hashtag Gallery as part of its 2025 residency program, curated by Helene Bosecker, (roam projects Berlin and German-Estonian Society). The cooperation is a follow- up project rooting in the transatlantic initiative B-LA-M which extends over 3 years and involves cooperation of up to 100 galleries, project spaces and curatorial collectives between Berlin (summer 2024), Mexico City (autumn 2025) and Los Angeles (2026).

The exhibition title “That awkward moment between birth and death” reflects on several topics relevant to the young artist’s spirit, mainly how consciously we live the one life we have. Anxiety fueled by social media content, the vastness of fast consumption both in the digital and the analogue world, the fear of death and making wrong choices, the beauty of love, broken dreams and humor as a weapon against this blunt reality. Lekko deep dives into these fears and thoughts which mirror transgenerational feelings of displacement and overwhelmedness. His unmixed, neon colour palette on top of shiny, glittering backgrounds together with clip art aesthetics and his relief technique form a singular and recognizable style.

Sucesiva is the bridge building force behind the project and values Lekkos provocative honesty: “Even though the works appear as extra loud and extra colourful at first glance, I was moved by the sensitivity which unfolds by dedicating more than a second of attention. It reminded me of how social media consumption untrained our minds and  hearts from being attentive and patient with our surroundings.” Lekko oscillates between pop cultural references and introspective emotional excavations which offers a low-threshold approach to the audience without remaining in a superficial state. There is always a twist waiting by closer inspection, something that makes the viewer laugh and cry at the same time. “The honesty in his works sometimes works like a needle – you can feel the sting in your chest because Kennet is touching a topic, pressing a button that visualises the unspoken. I have seen it many times when the moment hits: A laugh is followed by an intense look in silence, the facial expression changes and the atmosphere immediately becomes more intimate, like he is depicting what can’t be said or dealt with and it is such a relief for the viewer that their fears and doubts are shared by others.”

All works in this show are freshly out of the studio and present the variety of his artistic practise. Kennet Lekko will be present for the opening and an artist talk.
