July 21-31 MELISSA MOFFAT: “Comics & Couture”

Comic books and fashion magazines are deconstructed and given new life.

When comic books are my material; my art takes the bold and familiar figures and appropriates them into an abstraction. Yet even as the context and composition of the original images disappear the essence of the characters remain.

When fashion magazines are the material; patterns, textures, and colours of fashion, and accessories, become the palette. A cut and paste puzzle, that guides the viewer’s eye to new unexpected symmetries.

With each material and subject matter my work aims to evoke a tapestry of images that lose the viewer in its stories as a sky full of endless, shifting clouds.
